Hunting
Lake of the Woods is a popular destination for hunters looking for small and big game animals along with waterfowl. Whether you enjoy bow hunting or rifle hunting, the vast wilderness areas will support your favorite sport. Both Residents and Non-Residents of Ontario are sure to be amazed at the abundance of species available for harvest. Black Bear, White-Tailed Deer, and Moose are big game that can be found on both mainland and island areas.
With over 14,000 islands, Lake of the Woods has a variety of cover for migrating waterfowl and falls into the Mid-West migration corridor. Many bays grow wild rice which creates an excellent feeding area for ducks and geese. Mallards, Teal – Blue & Green Winged, Bufflehead, Blue-Bills (Great & Lesser Scaup), and Canadian Geese are some favorite birds for hunters. Decoys and blinds are a must for harvesting these intelligent birds. Small game like rabbits, fox, wolf and coyote are plentiful. Other favorite small game in this area include Hungarian Partridge, Sharp-Tailed and Ruffed Grouse.
Guided and non-guided hunts are available depending on where you would like to hunt. Whether you are seeking trophy big game or just enjoy the excitement and challenge of the hunt, Lake of the Woods offers the ultimate experience.
Ministry of Natural Resources Hunting Regulations are available via the Service Ontario website at www.serviceontario.ca. All Non-Residents of Ontario are required to complete an Outdoors Card application in addition to the hunting license purchase. Please also check for regulations regarding gun hunting in Ontario.
